Dear family, friends, and neighbors from all over,
We're posting this GoFundMe in a state of trepidation and hopefulness. Our kind and loving mom, Susan Valenti (65), has been given a shocking diagnosis of Motor Neuron Disease (MND) in June of 2025. This condition is also known as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and Lou Gehrig's disease, and it's a progressive neurodegenerative disease that impacts nerve cells controlling voluntary muscle movement. Because of this disease, our mom has difficulty speaking, swallowing, and suffers from mobility issues. This condition does not have a cure, and the outcome is terminal (except for singular, extreme outlier cases). Regardless of this ordeal, Susan remains as loving, kind, and positive as she's ever been.
Our mom has always been a caring and empathetic person. She deeply enjoys being a grandmother, and she often finds friendship with anyone she meets. She worked for many years at the café at Providence College, and she formed friendships with many of the students there (they were her favorite part of the job). She often thinks of others; even now, she expresses concern about inconveniencing my sister, Nicole, and I as we help her with regular tasks and medical appointments.
Nicole and I are doing everything in our power to ensure that our mom has everything she needs for this difficult journey ahead. We're asking for your assistance to help cover the costs of our mom's medical care, which can vary greatly due to the nature of this disease. Your generous contributions will help to remove the stress of at least one unknown and allow our mom to focus on every moment with friends and family.
We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generosity, kindness, and consideration. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
