My name is Jef Gunn, and I’m raising funds to help my wife, Susan, who was recently a victim of a devastating fraud that cost her tens of thousands of dollars. She is deeply traumatized psychologically and financially by this attack. Susan is the primary earner in our household, and this scam not only emptied her bank account, but it’s also making monthly bills difficult to manage for both of us. We are doing everything we can to recover, but we are here because we really need your help. The trauma is ongoing.

Below are the details of what happened. We are sharing in hopes it does not happen to anyone else.

The attack happened on December 30, 2025, when the perpetrator alleged to be calling from the Clackamas County Sherrif’s Office. He told her they were working with the DOJ and the FBI, and she was being accused of Payroll Protection Loan fraud, had missed a federally mandated court date, and had a warrant out for her arrest.

Susan is a highly intelligent and aware person. She repeatedly asked for more detailed information to check, which he was able to provide. He knew that she had two PPP loans (Payroll Protection Program), the exact amounts of these loans, which financial institutions they originated from, and our home address. The name the perpetrator used was in fact an officer’s name that she validated online as being with the Clackamas County sheriff’s office. She asked him where the Clackamas County Sherrif’s office is located – he immediately gave the correct address. She also found a reputable report online that the Trump administration is aggressively and actively pursuing people that received PPP loans.

Everything was validating what she was being told.

Here’s where it got really scary. The officer told her if she did not cooperate, that she would be brought in and taken into custody (confirming again he knew our address). He went on to tell her she could be detained anywhere in the US. He was threatening to “disappear” her – threats similar to what we are seeing in real time in this country. She was told that if she spoke with anyone while this issue was pending, that federal obstruction charges would be filed against anyone she spoke to. He was isolating her.

Susan told them she hadn’t done anything wrong, to which he responded, “You have to prove that in court!” When she asked about due process, he responded with “This is how THIS FBI works now! This is how THIS DOJ works now!” again alluding to the current Trump administration. Over the course of this horrific experience, she repeatedly asked about due process and the frightening refrain: this is how THIS FBI works, this is how THIS DOJ works was repeated forcefully.

Her brain was hijacked. The fight or flight center of the brain is the amygdala. When there is a perceived overwhelming threat, the amygdala immediately takes over. The frontal lobes, where logic and reasoning are done, no longer function at the forefront. An amygdala hijack is an immediate and overwhelming response when one is threatened and terrorized. This phenomenon is very well understood in medical and mental/behavioral health circles. Again, thought and reasoning are not at the forefront when this occurs.

Susan tells me that the reason this fraud was so effective was because the perpetrator paralleled and mirrored what is currently happening in this country. It can not be overstated that the fraud scam weaponized what is happening right now with this current administration, in real time against its own citizens. That was deeply terrifying to her.

There are more frightening details to this story but the long and short of it is that she was terrorized into giving up tens of thousands of dollars of her very hard-earned income before a bank teller suspected fraud and passed her a note asking if she was being threatened. Susan wrote “alleged Clackamas County Sherriff’s office, DOJ/FBI, PPP Loan fraud” and pushed the note back to the teller. He nodded that he had seen this before and gave her the courage to hang up on the perpetrator. She then had to immediately move into damage control because of all the personal information that the perpetrator had obtained. This has brought so much ongoing trauma, damage and chaos to Susan’s life.

Susan is one of the kindest people I’ve ever known who is deeply compassionate and loving. She didn’t deserve this – no one does. Please, if you can, contribute to help her regain financial stability.
