On January 20, 2026, our family experienced a devastating tragedy when a fire broke out at my mother-in-law’s, Susan Baker, home. In a matter of minutes, everything changed.
Her partner was rescued from the house and rushed to the hospital, but despite the tireless efforts of medical staff, he tragically passed away due to complications from smoke inhalation. He was a loving partner, a steady presence in our family, and his loss has left an unimaginable hole in our hearts.
The fire also injured one of their beloved dogs, Rosie, who suffered from smoke inhalation and required emergency veterinary care. Thankfully, the dog survived, but the vet bills have added another unexpected burden during an already overwhelming time.
While insurance will cover most of the damage to the home and some associated losses, it does not cover funeral expenses or the cost of the emergency veterinary care. These immediate costs have fallen on my mother-in-law as she navigates profound grief, shock, and the painful task of rebuilding her life after losing both her home and her partner.
We are raising funds to help with:
• Funeral and memorial expenses
• Veterinary bills for the dog injured in the fire
• Immediate support to ease the financial strain during this time of loss
Any contribution, no matter the size, will help lift some of the weight from her shoulders and allow her the space to grieve without the added stress of financial hardship. If you’re unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser and keeping our family in your thoughts means just as much.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your kindness, compassion, and support during this incredibly difficult time.
