Hi everyone,
My name is Sunshine Day. I am a 2nd-year doctoral student studying social work and preparing for my comprehensive exam this May. I am raising $600 to help cover personal expenses for an upcoming study abroad service-learning trip to El Salvador this March for my spring break. I have already fully paid $2,875 for the program itself, but I was recently and unexpectedly fired from my serving job, which was the income I planned to rely on for the additional trip-related costs.
The funds collected from this page will help me to cover basic expenses while I am abroad, such as food/snacks, local transportation, small activities, and thoughtful gifts for and from the community. The service-learning activities we will engage in include:
- providing free health screenings through a community health fair
- assisting as a volunteer in a health clinic
- supporting community health workers with medical home visits
- presenting about nutrition and hygiene to elementary school children
I currently work as a substitute teacher, which pays slightly above minimum wage. That income will cover my regular bills for March, but it does not leave room for additional expenses related to the service-learning trip. I am actively looking for another job, but any support in the meantime would truly help me to enjoy and fully participate in this meaningful experience despite my unexpected loss of income.
If you are able to donate or share, I would be incredibly grateful. Thank you so much for your support and encouragement during this time. It truly means a lot to me ❤️
