Sunny has been with me since he was a tiny kitten, and now at 12 years old, he’s truly my heart cat. He’s the reason I fell so deeply in love with animals and developed such a strong passion for veterinary medicine, and ultimately why I work in an emergency veterinary hospital today. He’s been by my side through everything — moving across the country, breakups, new apartments, new jobs, new kittens, and all the life changes in between. He’s family.

In October 2024, Sunny began losing weight and experiencing chronic gastrointestinal issues, including persistent vomiting. Throughout 2025, we pursued a suspected diagnosis of IBD, trying multiple diet changes (including novel protein and hydrolyzed diets), anti-nausea medications, and ongoing care through internal medicine. He’s undergone extensive diagnostics, including bloodwork, x-rays, ultrasounds, and specialty consultations.

Despite all of this, his symptoms continued, and we are now facing a presumed diagnosis of lymphoma after his recent hospitalization last week. Sunny is scheduled to see an oncologist next week to discuss treatment options moving forward. He is currently on a long list of medications to help manage his symptoms and keep him comfortable.

Even working in emergency veterinary medicine and receiving professional discounts, the cost of diagnostics, medications, and specialty care has become overwhelming. Many in the vet med field know all too well that even when we do everything “right,” the financial burden of caring for our own pets can still be immense.

The funds raised will help cover Sunny’s current medical bills and support his ongoing oncology care. Most importantly, they will help give him more good days, days where his cat siblings, Dex, Nori, and Baker, can curl up next to him, love on him, and enjoy more time together.
