I’m writing on behalf of our friend Sunil—a passionate mathematics educator, mentor, music guru, and creator who has spent decades building meaningful experiences around mathematics and forming lasting connections with so many of us. Since August 2023, Sunil has faced a series of unexpected professional setbacks. After contributing to major platforms like Mathigon and Amplify, he was let go during restructuring. A promising contract opportunity soon after also fell through due to further changes. Since then, stable work has been difficult to secure. Despite years of experience, he has not received a single interview for teaching positions.

In the meantime, Sunil continues to teach students around the world, often charging less than he could because he believes deeply in making mathematics accessible and joyful. However, his current income is far below what is needed to cover basic living expenses, and he is now relying on family support to get by. If you know Sunil, you know mathematics is not just his profession—it is his life’s work. From building his math business, to collaborating internationally, to organizing events like the Global Math Summit and planning a Math Retreat in 2027, he has always been committed to meaningful mathematical community.

This fundraiser is to help Sunil regain financial stability so he can continue teaching and rebuilding without the constant pressure of making ends meet.
