Many of you may not know my mom, Summer Montez, but she is a beloved mother, grandmother, and sister. Over the past few years, she has been diagnosed with Raynaud’s (an autoimmune condition), Connective Tissue Disease (CTDS), and Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH). The most severe of these is PAH, a rapidly progressing disease that narrows the blood vessels in the lungs and other organs, leading to heart failure. My mom is now battling right ventricle heart failure, and this disease will ultimately take her from us—her seven children, seven grandchildren, family, and friends.
Our greatest hope is for her to spend her remaining time surrounded by family, making precious memories. However, the mounting medical bills and the high cost of her specialized medications are overwhelming. These medications come with severe side effects that prevent her from working, but they are critical because they can extend her life expectancy from just two years to potentially 10–20 years. While not a guarantee, they offer our best chance.
We are reaching out to our community for support during this challenging time. Any help you can provide will make a difference in allowing my mom to focus on her family rather than financial burdens. Thank you for your kindness and generosity.
