In honor of National Suicide Prevention Day, and in memory of Jesse Vega, we are again issuing a Scholarship to an Avon High School student. 100% of proceeds (minus the GoFundMe fee) will be donated to the fund and given directly to an Avon student for education. That is me presenting last year's award of $1,000 thanks to donors like you! The goal is to eventually increase donations in order to award more students.

All students submit an essay about how mental health has affected them and how the scholarship will be used to enhance their lives and those around them.

Jesse Vega was a student at Avon High School's alternative education program (previously Harris Academy, now Avon Academy). Jesse, although at times mischievous, had a heart of gold and would often confide in me over his fellow students who struggled, particularly those who were bullied or had mental health concerns. He wanted to do something life changing for them and others but felt discouraged about his limitations to do so.

Jesse became ill with a severe mental illness that led to him losing his life to suicide-ironically on Suicide Prevention Day. It is our hope to continue his legacy by fulfilling his wish to help those who are struggling by spreading awareness and giving a boost to those who need to realize they matter.
