If you’ve been around for any time at all, you know I have two hound dogs who were my first babies. Sugar came first, and then Jane joined this chaos. Last week I came home from vacation and Sugar wasn’t herself. In such a short time, I’ve watched her shake vigorously, not touch a piece of food, not make a sound, sleep nonstop, be unable to keep control of her bladder, lose control of her hips and bleed heavily in her stools. Today is day 2 at the vet and after talking to her about Sugar’s repeat x-ray and her condition overnight, they’ve decided to keep her for the weekend. Her liver and pancreas enzymes are high. She has a large mass near some free floating fluid that they can’t reach to aspirate but suspect it’s blood from a rupture. Several organs look enlarged, and she’s in pain. She’s on medications that she doesn’t seem to be responding to. Looking forward, it seems she will be having exploratory surgery on Monday morning if her condition doesn’t get any better and she continues to be unresponsive to all meds. They’d also like to remove an avocado-sized fatty tumor on the opposite side of the mass. This all being said, we have already racked up a bill that we weren’t ready to take on. I’m asking for help, as guilty as I feel, because she was my first baby. If money is the only thing standing in the way of getting answers, however necessary, then I want to make sure I have it when the time comes.
