Our dear friend Sue has been diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma and is currently undergoing treatment at the Cleveland Clinic. This diagnosis comes after nearly two years of medical uncertainty and an incredibly difficult journey for Sue and her family.
Since March of 2024, Sue began experiencing severe neuropathy in her hands and feet. As a middle school art teacher, this made it impossible for her to safely do her job, and she was forced to take a medical leave of absence for over a year while doctors tried to determine the cause. During that time, it was believed the issue had been identified, and treatment initially appeared to be working.
In the fall of 2025, Sue was finally able to return to the classroom — a place she loves deeply. She was overjoyed to be back with her students in the art room. Sadly, by mid-November, her condition began to worsen and the treatment was no longer effective. In early December, Sue fell at work due to the neuropathy in her legs and had to take another medical leave.
By Christmas of 2025, Sue required a walker to get around and struggled to move independently. By January, she had lost the use of both her arms and legs and needed assistance with basic daily tasks. It was at this point that she was able to get to the Cleveland Clinic, where doctors finally identified the underlying cause and diagnosed her with Multiple Myeloma. She has now begun treatment.
Sue has already been in Cleveland for two weeks and is expected to remain there for at least three more weeks as treatment continues. During this time, her husband Jay and their boys are traveling back and forth on weekends to be with her, staying in hotels and covering the cost of gas, food, and ongoing medical expenses.
This will be a long road to recovery as Sue works to regain strength in her arms and legs and walk again. In addition to medical and travel costs, the family will need to make modifications to their home to safely accommodate Sue once she is able to return home. They are also facing the added expense of paying for dog sitters while Jay and the boys are in Cleveland with her.
We are setting up this GoFundMe to help relieve some of the financial burden on their family so they can focus on what matters most — Sue’s healing and being together during this incredibly difficult time. Funds raised will go toward travel expenses, food, gas, lodging, medical-related bills, necessary home modifications, and pet care while the family is away.
Any donation, no matter the size, is deeply appreciated. If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this page and keeping Sue and her family in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you for surrounding them with love, support, and strength during this fight. ❤️
