Support Sue and Derek's Recovery from Fire
Donation protected
Our coworker Sue Thompson lost her house in a devastating house fire the other night, for which the cause is still unknown.
The night of the fire, Sue and her son Derek had driven to the Cape to visit their 92-year-old grandfather who is ill. They had an amazing visit and were so happy to see him. They arrived home from the Cape at approximately 10 PM on Tuesday night and went to bed.
Sue was woken up by her son screaming. He woke up from a sound sleep and felt heat coming from the back of his bedroom door. He felt trapped and didn’t know what to do, so he kicked his bedroom door down. Unfortunately, when he did that, the flames started pouring into his room. They tried to pour some water to put the fire out because they were in such shock they didn’t even know what was happening. They were in such a panic trying to save their home, they did not realize the damage that was already done. The roof was already engulfed in flames, and it was too late. They were in such shock they couldn’t even dial 911. Thankfully, the neighbors called 911. Sue and Derek got out safely with no harm. Once they got safely outside, they saw the entire roof up in flames, and the side of their house that her son lives in was completely destroyed and ready to cave in. All of his belongings were gone. The firefighters cut into Sue's room while the flames were raging across the ceiling, to try and stop the flames from traveling through the rest of the house.
Sue has lived in this house for 40 years, and she just finished updating everything that she has been needing to, to make her home exactly the way she wanted it.
As of right now, Sue and Derek are staying at a hotel. If you know Sue, you know she would help anyone, anytime, and anywhere. All donations will be given to Sue and Derek to help them get back on their feet and pay for hotels, clothes, food, etc.
