I have been presented with the amazing opportunity to attend the American Sign Language department's study abroad trip to the Bahamas. On this trip, I will have the chance to gain invaluable experiences through service learning. My group will be working in a Deaf school for a week, getting hours of work in with the Deaf students who attend there. We will be creating lesson plans and executing them in a full classroom setting, and we will be able to utilize our knowledge of American Sign Language to do so. This trip will expand my understanding of Deaf culture and deepen my connection with the language. Not only that, but I will have been able to touch the hearts and minds of more students, which is something I am always working towards.
