My name is Andrea and I'm an unemployed artist, Lgbtq+, and I live in Tennessee, making life just a little harder. My family consists of my elderly mother and 4 cats (who might as well be my kids.) Mom's on social security, it mostly covers rent, maybe a week of groceries, or the other bills (internet, etc.)
My mom is well past the age that she could or should be going back to work. I've been having a hell of a time trying to find work myself. I've put in applications, repeatedly, for a multitude of jobs and have gotten either rejections or no response at all. Bussers, cashier, data entry, retail, dishwasher, admin assistant; you name it and I've probably applied.
The electric bill last month was nearly $300. The insane heat dome we've been experiencing and a water heater leak ran the bill far higher than normal. The next one is estimated to be somewhere around $370.
We pay a considerably lower rate for rent than almost anywhere in town, and probably anywhere nearby, but we're pretty sure that the landlord is going to increase the rent another $150 per month when our lease is up at the end of October. Everywhere else we could stay is more expensive and what we currently pay is already too much.
We are probably a month or two from being homeless. Which is being generous.
I'm setting up this gofundme as ongoing in the hopes that it can keep us afloat while I continue to look for work.
Anything not used for immediate expenses will go towards a fund that helps cover the cost of moving if we can't stay here.
