We are Annika and Caleb and we are raising funds for our sweet dog Stout. Stout was recently diagnosed with lingual squamous cell carcinoma, an aggressive form of tongue cancer.
To our relief, the oncologist was cautiously optimistic that treatment will be effective at this stage, as it has not spread beyond his tongue. We started him right away on Palladia, a chemo-adjacent drug which is new but has been shown to slow/stop the growth of the cancer. He will also need to have a portion of the right side of his tongue removed.
With Stout’s quality of life being the most important part of all of this, we would not pursue these treatments if we believed that they would not be effective. However, as many animal lovers know, they are not cheap. We are in the process of exploring additional jobs to supplement our income, but that also comes at the cost of time spent with Stout, making sure his needs are met and that he has companionship in this uncomfortable and scary time.
Stout is our baby. At 5 years old, he still has a life of love and adventure ahead of him. We sincerely believe that at this stage, he wants to be here with us as much as we want to be with him. He loves people of all ages, he loves swimming and sniffing and meeting new friends. He loves his stuffed animals and trying new foods. He is such a gentle giant and just wants to be nearby.
This fundraiser will be going to his medication, which costs about $1300 a month, as well as x-rays and imaging to monitor the cancer, which range in the thousands. Additionally, his surgery on his tongue will range from $2000-3000.
Stout has given us so much love and happiness over the last 5 years, and he is a core part of our little family. If you can give anything, it would mean the world to him.
Many thanks,
Annika and Caleb
