Support Stormy's Lifesaving Treatment

Donation protected
I rescued Stormy as a puppy at a time in my life where there were a lot of uncertainties. Since picking her up from the shelter, she has been the most constant thing in my life and the best friend i could ever have. Not even two weeks ago, Stormy developed a limp, which I thought was an injury. After taking X-rays, the vets found the unthinkable. Stormy has been diagnosed with Systemic aspergillosis, which is a rare and fatal fungal infection with limited research that has developed into a large infected mass on the left side of her pelvis. There is no way to know how or when this happened, aside from the fact that studies show that German Shepherds are more susceptible to this than any other breed. This infection would not give Stormy much longer if not treated, and could be destroying the bones where the mass is located.

I have already spent about $9k just on finding a diagnosis, from blood work and fine needle aspirates, and the treatment plan includes Stormy being on meds for the rest of her life to keep this disease at bay. This will include bloodwork and MRI’s/CT scans periodically to ensure the medications are working, all in which can add up very quickly. If all goes correctly, Stormy will respond well to the medication and hopefully her leg will also be able to be saved.

Stormy, a beautiful german shepherd mix, is now only three years old. There is never a right time for such a diagnosis, but this is coming at a time where I haven’t yet recovered from losing my home and belongings to Hurricane Helene in Saint Petersburg, Florida. What i’ve learned over the last few months is how to adapt and be patient. My house can be fixed and my belongings can be replaced. What I am not willing to adapt to is the thought of losing Stormy. I do not like asking for help, but Stormy needs it and I will do anything i can to try to give her the long life she deserves. The option to keep Stormy alive has presented another unexpected financial burden and another debt to pay. I do have pet insurance, but they have put a pause on the claims as the company is not accepting the records provided by the shelter from before I even adopted Stormy. While I am working to resolve these issues, insurance would cap out and not give us the assistance we need for this lifelong journey as we have already surpassed the policy limit amount.

Any donation to help Stormy get the treatment she needs would mean the world to me and most importantly it would give Stormy another chance to live a long, more normal life. Stormy still has a long road to recovery, but she deserves to be taken care of just as much as she’s taken care of me. All funds raised will be put towards the cost of Stormy’s diagnosis, future treatments, check ups, and life long medications. If you’ve met Stormy, you know she is the most gentle, loving, and happiest dog you’ll ever meet; truly the definition of a gentle giant. She deserves many more years of skating and chasing squirrels. Any amount helps and sharing the link would be amazing <3 thank you.
