My name’s Ray. Most people know me as “the weirdo” — and I wear that badge proudly.

Life knocked me flat on my back… literally.

What was supposed to be a routine back surgery turned into a full-blown medical plot twist nobody ordered. I had an aneurysm. Then a stroke. Then blood clots decided to tour my whole body like they paid rent. Now I live with permanent nerve damage, constant pain, and I can’t stand or walk without a cane. I use a shower chair. Yeah… humbling is an understatement.

But here’s the thing — I’m still here.

I haven’t been able to work for over two years. Disability said “nah.” Bills said “yes.” My wife has been carrying way more than her fair share, and that doesn’t sit right with me. I’m built to provide. So even though my body changed, my drive didn’t.

I’ve been approved for an emotional support dog — not to fetch stuff or open doors, but to help me mentally and emotionally keep pushing. When your body betrays you like that, your mind takes some hits too. And I love animals, so having that daily companionship? That matters more than people realize.

Now here’s where we pivot.

I’m starting a coffee business right here in San Antonio. Because if I can’t clock in for somebody else, I’ll build something of my own. I just need help getting it off the ground — equipment, supplies, the basics to make this thing real.

I’m not asking for a handout. I’m asking for a hand up.
