On Monday, August 25th, while vacationing in Fenwick, DE, Steve suffered a catastrophic ocean accident that left him paralyzed from the chest down with limited use of his arms. He nearly drowned but was rescued by lifeguards and medical professionals on the beach who immediately began life-saving measures until first responders arrived.
Steve was airlifted to Christiana Care, where he spent five days in the ICU and underwent cervical surgery for spinal cord impingement. After ten days, he was transferred to an acute rehabilitation facility in Baltimore, where he now faces a long road of intensive physical and occupational therapy.
Before this life-altering injury, Steve spent over 20 years rushing to help others as a proud firefighter. Now, he and his family find themselves in need of support.
As Steve prepares to transition home, he will require 24/7 care and significant home modifications—including an accessible bedroom, bathroom, widened doorways, and potentially a handicap-accessible vehicle. In addition, his recovery will involve costly medical equipment, outpatient therapies, adaptive devices, and ongoing supplies not covered by insurance.
Anyone who knows Steve knows he is strong and determined. But the financial burden on him, his wife, and their daughter is overwhelming.
Your support—whether through donations, prayers, or simply sharing this campaign—will make a tremendous difference. Every gift goes directly toward Steve’s care and recovery, and every dollar is deeply appreciated.
