For 19 years, I built a career in architecture and loved every minute of it. But in 2019, my life changed dramatically when I got sick and had to leave my job. I filed for disability so I could get the insurance I needed to cover dialysis, and while social security barely paid my bills, I managed to get by.
Recently, I received a kidney transplant—a moment I am incredibly grateful for. However, the journey to recovery has brought new challenges. Sometimes, I can't get government-assisted transportation and have to pay out of pocket just to reach the hospital in the Bronx from Brooklyn. Eating healthier is essential for my recovery, but it has made my food bills skyrocket. There are also medical supplies I need that aren't covered by insurance.
Before my surgery, I supplemented my income with photography, but now I'm unable to work for the next six months while I heal. That's why I'm reaching out for help. Any support would mean the world to me as I recover and work toward getting back on my feet. Thank you for considering helping during this challenging time.
