We are reaching out with heavy hearts to update you on Steve's challenging journey. After undergoing neck surgery to address spinal stenosis symptoms, unforeseen complications have led him to the Critical Care Unit.

On December 7, post-surgery, Steve faced unexpected challenges—a collapsed lung and the discovery of a spinal anomaly. Despite two surgeries and resilient fights against fevers and lung issues, the road ahead remains uncertain.

Recently, we've opened Steve's room to visitors, recognizing the value of shared moments. Collaborating with Palliative Care, we've navigated complex decisions, reducing sedation to increase Steve's participation in his care.

January 3rd brought a unique moment: Steve speaking through a device connected to the trach tube. The reality is profound—limited recovery of certain functions, reliance on medical devices, and constant support. Steve, facing this, has chosen to fight.

Yet, beyond health challenges, the financial strain is real. Hospital bills are accumulating, and despite insurance, a substantial portion remains uncovered. Managing these matters has become overwhelming, especially with Steve's shift to long-term disability.

In a heart-to-heart on Sunday, we discussed Steve's financial situation, contemplating selling non-sentimental items and breaking his apartment lease. We're launching a GoFundMe to address these initial challenges.

We understand times are tough, but any support, big or small, can make a difference. We're also opening up visits for those who wish to see Steve, believing your presence will boost his spirits.
