For those of you who know Steve, he has a big heart for helping those around him who need helped.
He works as an aide to special needs students in the Columbus area and has spent several summers working at local camps for kids. Along with his eagerness to help children, Steve also has a reputation for helping stray cats. For over a decade, he has worked with local charities and organizations to get cats spayed or neutered. He has also rescued feral cats that cannot be fostered and arranged for them to live in an area around Fairfield, Ohio, on a 69-acre farm where these cats can live out the rest of their days in safety with proper nutrition and care.
It should come as no surprise that he has opened up his own home to care for several of these cats. His very first rescue, Kawnu (affectionally called ‘Big Sis’ because she is in charge of the clan), has recently dealt with a number of health issues and endured several veterinary trips to finally receive a proper diagnosis.
What was initially thought to be some inflammation in the gut turned out to be a cancerous mass in her intestines.
For two weeks, Steve rushed her from one vet to the next in an attempt to
determine next steps and how to administer medicine to a very scared cat.
All of these vet trips have caused real financial strain. Steve also has three other cats he has rescued from various circumstances over the years, and while some will say that perhaps Steve should have foreseen veterinary costs as a future issue, Steve is just not one of those people. This world needs some among us to show more compassion and act with a little faith.
I am hoping you can spare a few dollars to cover the costs of Kawnu’s emergency medical care and crematory services. There will be transparency about actual costs and providing invoices to this page. If you cannot donate at the moment, that’s okay. Pass this along to someone else who you know has a soft spot for animals or has known Steve over the years. Much appreciation and love to you all for helping in this difficult time.
