My dad, Steven Swartz, has spent his whole life taking care of other people. As a U.S. Navy surgeon and later through his work helping build a surgery center in Cambodia, he gave so much of himself to anyone who needed him. That’s just who he is—steady, generous, and quietly devoted to serving others.

A few weeks ago, everything changed. While in Cambodia, Dad suffered a sudden and serious medical emergency. He’s now in the hospital. He’s stable, but he can’t walk or communicate clearly, and he needs constant medical supervision and nursing care. Being so far away from him during all of this has been one of the hardest things I’ve ever experienced.

We’re doing everything we can to make sure he’s safe while we figure out how to bring him home. But being overseas has created challenges we never expected—emotionally, financially, and in ways that have been overwhelming at times. More than anything, I just want my dad back in the United States, where he can receive long‑term care, access the benefits he earned through his years of service, and be surrounded by the people who love him. The Medical assistance fees to travel from Cambodia to the U.S. are substantial.

My dad has spent his entire life caring for others. Now I’m asking for help caring for him. Whether it’s a donation of any amount or simply sharing his story, your support means more to me and my family than I can express.
