Help Steven Abrams: A Hero's Home Lost, Let's Rebuild His Life

In our midst lives a true hero. Steven Abrams, a man who has dedicated his life of service for his country, experienced an unthinkable event within the safe zones of his own home which potentially threaten the lives of his whole family. Steven has consistently exemplified bravery, dedication, and honor through His days as a US Army combat OEF veteran, his tenure as a Baltimore police officer, to his current role as an NYPD Detective; However life threw him an unexpected blow.

On August 19th, at 4 AM, Steven's home, located near a sump in Brookhaven, collapsed after a dangerous and massive sinkhole severely compromised his property. In early July 2024, Despite notifying the proper authorities on numerous occasions, the critical structural issues related to the sump, were never given corrective action and was assured to be considered “safe”. Due to negligence by Brookhaven town authorities, Steven, his wife, and their two children now find themselves homeless, and their home deemed Unsafe and Uninhabitable as per town of Brookhavens building inspectors because of this collapse.

Adding to their plight, neither the town nor the Insurance company is willing to cover nor compensate for this devastating loss. This family, who has given so much to our community and country, now faces an uphill battle, needing legal representation and immediate housing.
