On a quiet morning in April 2009, the residents of Dunedin, Florida, woke up to a delightful mystery. The town had transformed overnight, with vibrant oranges adorning storefronts, mimicking the nostalgic charm of vintage orange crate logos. This unexpected burst of color was the brainchild of two local artists, Steve Spathelf, known affectionately as "The Orange Guy," and Marsha Goins.

In the wee hours, they painted seven locations, sparking a treasure hunt among locals and visitors alike who became eager to find each new mural. What started as a small project burgeoned into a beloved community hallmark, with over 1,000 oranges now painted throughout Dunedin. This whimsical initiative has beautified our town, attracted visitors, brought together the community, and inspired countless others.

Why We Need Your Help

Steve Spathelf, the mastermind behind these iconic murals, has dedicated his life to spreading joy and color through his art. Today, we invite you, our community, and supporters from everywhere to give back to a man who has given so much of himself to our town.

As Steve continues his work, even amidst personal challenges, we launch this fundraiser to ensure he can continue his art without financial worries. Your contributions will directly support Steve's living and medical expenses, allowing him to maintain his studio and create new murals for everyone to enjoy.

Giving Back

In addition to supporting Steve, 10% of your donation will be contributed to "Paint Dunedin Purple for Alzheimer's," a local initiative dedicated to raising awareness and supporting Alzheimer's research.

Special Incentive for Donors

As a special thank you, donors who contribute $300 or more will receive an original piece of art by Steve—an orange painting on a 6 in x 10 in slate tile. This exclusive piece will feature a purple Steve Spathelf signature, symbolizing support for Alzheimer's awareness, and is limited to the first 80 contributors in this campaign.
