Support Steve Smith and Family

Donation protected

Steven Smith, age 45 was diagnosed with glioblastoma (GBM) in December, after suffering a seizure at home.  He has started chemotherapy and radiation treatments to attempt to slow the progression of the disease.  Typically GBM carries a 15 month life expectancy and while Steve's particular case appears aggressive his friends and family are praying for a miracle.

Steve graduated in 1994 from Yough Senior High School located in Herminie, PA.  He went on to graduate in 1998 from Hobart College, where he played football.  Steve attended Veterinary school at Michigan State, graduating in 2002.

The Smith family is loving, faithful, and bound together by their love of God and the outdoors.  His wife Alexis exemplifies strength and homeschools their 4 children and is now the primary caregiver for Steve.  Their four children (Paige, Maddox, Heidi, and Nola) ranging in age from 6 to 15 years old have stepped up to help anyway they are able.

He has experienced paralysis of the right side of his body and requires a lot of assistance with normal daily activities.  Tough and hard working, Steve has been doing physical therapy to preserve as much function as possible.  Steve is a veterinarian and given his handicap has been out of work since the time of his seizure.  As the sole provider for his family this is a significant challenge.  In addition, to his hard work and long hours providing excellent care to the beloved pets of the community, Steve has been building a new home for his family.  With love and dedication he has laid every floorboard in the house and has carefully crafted all of the woodwork.  As his wife says "Steve's hands are all over this place."  The family will hopefully be able to keep this home as a living tribute to Steve.

The Smith family is well known among their friends and family for their selfless acts and contributions to the community. Since his diagnosis the outpouring of support has been inspiring and has lifted the family’s spirits. They have asked only for prayers but have been provided many meals and countless other acts of kindness as well. Those of us closest to the Smith family are doing all we can but are asking for help to secure support in the way of monetary donations to offset the cost of medical bills and the loss of their primary wage earner. One of the biggest goals we have is to ensure his family can remain in the beautiful home that Steve has built.

If you are not in a position to donate at this time we completely understand and encourage you to share this post and a simple prayer is appreciated just as much.
