My daddy, Steve Pochop, has always been larger than life and constantly going. Many of you know his amazing testimony. You cannot speak to him without knowing the great things that the Lord has done in his life. Unfortunately, he was diagnosed with liver disease in 1996 and underwent numerous treatments trying to heal his liver over the years. Despite these treatments, his liver has not fared well. In the last year, he has experienced muscle wasting (to the point of losing 75 pounds), debilitating vertigo, extreme fatigue, and fluid retention in his abdomen necessitating paracenteses (where they draw off this fluid) weekly. His liver is no longer doing its job, and he has gotten to the point where he needs a liver transplant. He has been evaluated by the liver transplant team at UAB, and was going to be placed on the list in Alabama, but due to insurance issues, will have to be placed on the list in Arkansas as it is the nearest liver transplant center that will be covered. Due to this massive medical undertaking, travel expenses, and prolonged time off work and without income, we are asking for some monetary help.
Dad has been unable to do a lot of work in the last few months due to illness (but he can still preach!) which has caused some financial strain, but Mom (Vickie Pochop) has also been having to take off work intermittently to drive Dad to appointments and take care of him when he has been hospitalized causing additional financial strain. Additionally, the proposed cost of a liver transplant is $500,000 before insurance is applied. Thankfully, by using the covered hospital in Arkansas, the majority of that half a million dollars should be taken care of, however there will still be a large amount to end up paying out of pocket. Another cost is emergent transportation to Little Rock, Arkansas once he gets the call that a liver is available (this will be done by air). Also, once you have a liver transplant, you have to stay near the transplant center for about 4 months. The transplant center recommended that he and mom set aside 4 months worth of income for this time period. All of these costs added up together amount to large numbers and seem impossible, but we know that impossible is not a word that even needs to be on our radar right now.
This is where you come in. We need help raising money to support Steve and Vickie Pochop during this time. We have a goal set of $50,000 to help offset these medical bills, transportation costs, and loss of income. Any contribution that can be donated will be supremely appreciated and accepted humbly. As much as this request has been for financial support, it is most important that we get as many prayers and petitions to the Lord our God for good health for Dad in the waiting, for a liver to become available quickly, and for strength for him and Mom right now.
