Support Steve Cassil's Spinal Injury Recovery

On September 8th, 2024, Steve Cassil fainted and fell in his bathroom. This resulted in a major neck/spine injury, which affected his feeling and movement. He could only feel his shoulders and had feeling down to his waist only on one side. He was admitted to OU Medical in ICU and was intubated because of trouble breathing. He also received stitches in his forehead and the bridge of his nose. Later that afternoon, he was able to move his left foot a bit. The doctors decided he needed spinal fusion due to vertebrae in his neck being compressed at C3-C6; they ended up fusing 4 vertebrae.

September 11th the plan was to move him to Jim Thorpe Rehab Hospital South, but due to pain control, he could not be moved. He also required to be moved every two hours to stave off bed sores. Every day he would remain in the bed not moving, his muscles would allow deterioration of his muscles. He did start to have feeling from head to toe but no changes in mobility. Still numb areas in legs, arms, and torso but started to fully feel his fingers and toes; that was a positive sign.

September 11th Update He can move his arms and legs and some movement from the knee down, still no movement in wrists or hands. Amazing care nurses and keeping Pat up to date while she tries to sleep.

September 13th Update moved to Jim Thorpe Inpatient Rehab 4219 S Western, Room 5202, 73109. He will start 3 hours of PT and they will have more of an update on Tuesday, September 17th. Pat is asking to send Steve a card, pictures, video messages, or just words of encouragement.
