Support Steve Brown’s Fight Against Lung Cancer
Steve Brown — a devoted husband, father, grandfather, lifelong blue‑collar worker, and avid outdoorsman from Naselle, WA — was recently diagnosed with lung cancer. He and my mom are facing mounting medical and travel expenses as he begins treatment at OHSU. Any contribution will help cover medical bills, travel, and day‑to‑day care so they can focus on healing and family.
Steve has been my stepdad since I was ten. He stepped into our lives when we were lost and gave us stability, guidance, and love. He’s the kind of man who shows up: a hardworking truck driver who spent decades behind the wheel of semis, log trucks, and dump trucks to provide for his family. Blue‑collar runs in his blood.
Steve is also an outdoorsman at heart. He loves to hunt and fish, and some of his happiest memories are teaching his grandchildren how to cast a line or bait a hook. Those quiet mornings on the water and long days in the field are where he finds peace, and they’re a big part of what makes him the steady, generous person we all rely on.
He’s a proud papa to eight grandchildren who adore him. He’s the steady hand and the quiet example so many of us leaned on.
After a few days of feeling unusually tired and “out of it,” my mom took Steve to the clinic in Long Beach, WA. Within minutes of arriving on Sunday morning he was rushed to OHSU by Lifeflight. Doctors drained a liter of fluid from around his heart and discovered a mass in his lung. This diagnosis came as a shock to all of us. He has since begun treatment, which requires frequent trips from Naselle to Portland for chemo and follow‑up care.
Steve’s diagnosis forced him into retirement, and my mom has stepped into the role of his full‑time caregiver. Between medical bills, travel to OHSU, prescription costs, and the loss of steady income, the financial strain is immediate and real. Like many working‑class families, they’ve spent their lives earning a living through physically demanding jobs that didn’t always come with comprehensive health benefits. At the time of Steve’s diagnosis, they were between insurance coverage — a gap that has left them facing medical bills, travel costs, and treatment expenses on their own.
They have always been the ones to help others and rarely ask for anything — now they need a little help so they can focus on what matters most: Steve’s health and time together as a family.
All funds will go directly to support Steve and my mom, including:
- Medical expenses — treatments and medications.
- Travel — frequent trips their home in WA to OHSU in Portland.
- Daily living and caregiving costs while Steve recovers and undergoes treatment.
- Home supplies to make daily care safer and easier.
Steve has been a father and role model to me and my brothers when we needed one most. He’s given so much to others — from steady work to quiet lessons on patience and respect for the outdoors — and now it’s our turn to give back. Even if you can’t donate, sharing this page with friends, family, or coworkers would mean the world to us.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your support, prayers, and kindness during this difficult time. Every dollar, share, like and message of encouragement helps lift a heavy burden and brings hope to our family.
With gratitude,
Kevin Hunt
