My name is Matt Wood. I am a volunteer ski patroller and Patrol Chief/COO of Mt. Hood Ski Patrol in Portland, OR. I'd like to ask for your support for Steve Bonham, one of MHSP's most beloved patrollers, who needs help recovering from a major injury he suffered on duty.
On Sunday, March 9, Steve was on a ridge run he'd made a thousand times when he unexpectedly lost control. He doesn't remember how it happened, but Steve launched off a 20-foot cliff, landing and breaking his right ankle and shattering his left leg. After sliding a few hundred feet unconscious, Steve came to and called on the radio for assistance. Steve was taken by helicopter to the Emanuel Trauma Center.
It's been a touch-and-go week! Steve has been through multiple surgeries to repair damage to both legs, and he has a long road to recovery, with more surgeries and many months of rehab in store. While much of his medical costs are covered, Steve is the only source of income for the family. He will need help improving access to his house, assistance with normal household bills, and help with transportation for physical therapy and doctor visits.
Thank you for being willing to help! Steve is a fountain of goodness, a master of goodwill, and a consummate team member and team builder. The Bonham Family and Mt. Hood Ski Patrol would appreciate anything you can do.
