Stand with Steve: Contribute to his Legal Fund

I am hosting this GoFundMe in support of our dear friend Steve Blandford. As many of you know, Steve is a Canadian citizen, who had been in the U.S. on a work visa for many years (since 2001) and our dear friend, Karen Keresey’s life partner since 2008.

The company Steve was employed through collapsed under the financial impact of COVID. When Steve’s work visa expired in November of 2022, he was unable to renew it. He returned to Canada at that time and has continued to do so every six months, understanding that those were the terms he needed to abide by.

On May 7, 2024, Steve was stopped by the U.S. Border Patrol on one of these trips and interrogated on and off for 3 hours. He has been denied entry into the U.S., accused of living illegally in the U.S. for the past 18 months because his visa expired and, as a consequence, not allowed to enter the U.S. for 5 years.

Steve is actively working with a legal team to appeal the decision made at the border and regain legal entry into the U.S. The appeals application is an arduous process – it is currently taking 26 months to process applications. The legal costs and cost of the application to appeal are already mounting into the thousands of dollars.
