A few nights ago, after returning to his home in San Marcos, TX, my dear friend and spiritual big brother, Sterling Finlay, experienced a sudden and mysterious loss of consciousness due to a dizzy spell, and fell face first on his bathroom floor, causing several fractures to his skull and face, as well as brain bleeding. He has been hospitalized for the last couple of days in Austin and is waiting to hear whether or not he’ll need brain surgery. Sterling is the kind of guy who rarely asks for anything from anyone, so we are asking our community, and the central Texas music community and beyond, to lend your support to Sterling and his family - his wife, and two daughters - during this incredibly difficult time.
The winter months are generally a slow time for musicians as it is, but especially with his current health challenges, made even more complicated by the fact that he has previously had heart transplant surgery - which had already been giving him some health complications over the last year or so - he and his family are in an especially vulnerable time, as he will be unable to work for the foreseeable future, until he can recover from his injuries. These funds will help pay ongoing personal expenses; power, water, food, etc. as well as help defray mounting medical debt. If you are in a position and feel inclined to make a financial contribution to Sterling and his family to help cover the costs of bills and medical expenses while he recovers, I personally would be incredibly grateful, and I know that Sterling and his girls would be deeply appreciative as well.
Our San Marcos musical community, especially among songwriters, is one of the brightest spots in the creative universe. We are all grateful for each other and the sense of belonging, purpose and support we provide. So let's all lift up this amazing songwriter, musician, singer and group leader. Let's show the world that we put our money where our melodies are. That we care more about each other than our own success. That we truly are one spirit, one voice and one world!
