Hi, I’m Stephanie from Northern Delaware. I live on a fixed, very limited income due to several chronic health conditions, including lupus, chronic fatigue syndrome, Long COVID, and a medication injury that has seriously affected my nervous systems. While these are some of the main challenges I face, there are additional health issues that also impact my daily life.
I need and rely heavily on my car. While it requires expensive repairs, the mobility and independence it provides is invaluable to me.
My car is also essential for managing my health. It gets me to frequent doctor’s appointments and therapy sessions that help keep my symptoms as manageable as possible. When my aide is unavailable, I use my car to take out the trash and recycling. I also rely on it for grocery shopping and running essential errands…
As well as caring for my beloved dog, (Charlie), and cat, (Arthur), who are my emotional support animals. They are not just companions - they are a vital part of my ability to cope, stay regulated, and keep fighting for my life.
Without reliable transportation, caring for them and meeting their needs becomes incredibly difficult, and my symptoms, depression, and overall quality of life would significantly worsen.
Because walking even short distances significantly increases my pain, exhaustion, and stress, my car is vital for giving my dog, Charlie, safe and accessible opportunities to go outside, like trips to the park, which are important for both his well-being and mine.
I’ve been responsible with my car’s upkeep despite my limited income. However, it now requires major repairs—a refurbished hybrid battery and water pump replacement—to keep running reliably. These repairs are significant and beyond routine maintenance.
I’ve carefully researched repair options and found a local mechanic who specializes in hybrid work—outside of a dealership—to handle the water pump, along with a specialist who will install a refurbished hybrid battery at home.
I’ve explored every other option before turning to this fundraiser. I need my car not only for managing my health but also for vet visits and any emergency medical situations involving Charlie and Arthur. Without a dependable vehicle, caring for us all becomes increasingly difficult.
I appreciate any support, whether through donations or sharing my story. Thank you for taking the time to read this and for your kindness.
