On 10/7 my mom, Stephanie Smith, was admitted to ICU after suffering from a major brain bleed. The neurologist was 90% sure she wasn’t going to make it because not only was her neurological state unwell, but she also has stage 4 Congestive Heart Failure. We were told she wasn’t going to make it and my brother and I had made a decision to give her until 10/10 to show she was fighting or we were going to have the ventilator removed. If you know my mom, you know how stubborn she truly is. She has fought and fought and showed her anger that we have even thought about taking her off of the ventilator. Her brain has completely stopped bleeding, her vitals are better than expected for someone in her position, she’s reacting to pain, and overall she’s doing well for someone who was suffering a brain bleed. All of my moms CHF and LVAD doctors are in Gainesville at Shands hospital. Unfortunately here in Pensacola, there is not much information on LVADs. Last night on 10/10 she was transported to Gainesville so that they can monitor her and make sure everything is good as far as her heart goes after suffering a traumatic event such as the one she did. We are unsure if she’ll ever be able to talk or walk again, but we plan to be near her as much as we possibly can. I have quit my job, and resigned from school for now. We are trying to figure out places to stay in Gainesville that are near the hospital to be close to my mom. Even if she is able to recover, she would have to be in a rehab facility near her doctors. I’m asking for money to help with gas to and from Pensacola and to help with our stay while we are there with my mom. Anything will help. Prayers are more than appreciated. Thank you very much.
