Support Stephanie Benson (Kane) Battle Cancer
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Tami and I am fundraising on behalf of my friend, Stephanie. I met Stephanie when we worked at a pediatric medical daycare about 14 years ago. Soon, we became fast friends. As a nurse and nursing instructor, Stephanie has dedicated her life to helping, caring and teaching others.
In March of 2022, Stephanie was diagnosed with Stage 2 Breast Cancer. It was a very long, tough year of chemotherapy; "hard stuff" as they called it. At the end of treatment, she found out she had full chemo response and only a partial mastectomy (aka lumpectomy) was needed.
In November, the lumpectomy and removal of 4 lymph nodes took place, followed by 6 weeks of radiation. I was in tears of happiness when Stephanie sent me the picture of herself ringing the bell. She had fought a difficult battle and that picture signified the end of her fight ( or so we thought).
While nearing the end of radiation and preparing to return to work, Stephanie, was experiencing discomfort due to uterine fibroids. Stephanie knew she had fibroids but was told it needed to be placed on the back burner, due to the breast cancer diagnosis. After testing, the fibroids were confirmed as being larger and in February of this year, she had a hysterectomy. The hysterectomy testing pathology came back as Uterine Cancer, Stage 3.
So, instead of Stephanie preparing to return to work, she was headed back to chemotherapy and radiation.
I would like nothing more than to help my friend who has spent her life helping others. I have watched Stephanie navigate through the steps needed to take to ensure your company holds your position (provided you don't have back to back illnesses) , inquire about short and long term disability insurance etc. The time spent on the steps one needs to take has been like a part time job in and of itself.
My hope is that this GoFundMe page can help provide Stephanie with some alleviated financial stress such as COBRA and other medical and monthly expenses. Her main focus should not be on how she is going to pay her monthly bills, but rather on her health.
Any amount that you can donate will be greatly appreciated! Thank you for your support and reading Stephanie's story!
Sincerely,
