(PLEASE READ: URGENT HOUSING UPDATE BELOW)
On November 13, 2024, I lost the ability to walk due to a spinal cord injury from untreated Cauda Equina Syndrome.
After emergency spine surgery, I spent over a month in the hospital and acute rehab just to relearn how to sit upright, transfer in and out of bed, use the bathroom, and begin adjusting to life as a full-time wheelchair user.
Since being discharged home in January, I’ve lived alone in a second-story apartment that’s completely inaccessible. I have to drag my paralyzed body up and down a steep flight of stairs just to leave my home, risking re-injury every time. My doctor suspects I’ve caused new spinal fractures from this repeated trauma.
I rely on a paid caregiver 30 hours a week to help with cooking, cleaning, mobility, and basic medical needs. I’m not on disability yet, even though I qualify as permanently and severely disabled.
The $9,000 previously raised here helped me survive the past 6 months. It contributed toward food, rent, bills, pet care, and essential accessibility tools like an adjustable bed, grab bars, and mini ramps but it was never enough to meet all my needs. I’ve been falling behind ever since, and that funding is gone.
Most people spend the first year of a spinal cord injury recovering but I don’t have that luxury…I show up every day and work tirelessly to rebuild. I’ve been creating daily disability content to raise awareness/visibility and create an income source and I recently signed with a modeling agency that represents disabled talent. I’ve just started earning money through Meta’s bonus program and a couple small brand deals in the past couple months but I’m still far from financially secure.
I’m behind on rent and my landlord has agreed to forgive what I owe only if I move out by August. This gives me a rare chance to start over, but if I can’t raise enough to relocate into an accessible space, I’ll have nowhere to go.
After 6 months trapped in an unsafe apartment, I’m asking for support so I can finally move into a wheelchair-accessible home and continue healing safely with dignity.
Thank you so much for reading, sharing, and supporting.
With love,
