Support Stash's Medical Journey

For anyone who knows Stash, she is a sweet gentle cat who not only brings people a smile because of her silly mustache but her contagious lovable personality. Stash came into my life in 2020 and if I’m honest I wasn’t looking to take on a cat but somehow Stash and I found each other and I knew that we would be inseparable. She is truly my heart and soul and I would do anything possible to make her feel loved and happy.

On Friday, June 21st I noticed a sudden change in Stash’s behavior and quickly made an appointment with her vet the next morning when her strange behavior continued. On Monday ,June 24th, at the time of her appointment she had still been eating and drinking water and was still stable but I could tell that she was not feeling her best. They ran bloodwork as well as X-rays as I mentioned to them that I noticed she had stopped eating her usual amount and being less active the past 3 days. On Tuesday when the bloodwork came in they informed me that Stash had been detected with Anemia, unsure of what had suddenly caused her to become anemic they wanted to run another blood test for the Anemia but because at the time of her visit on Monday she was stable, they told me to just continue monitoring her until the result came back. Come Wednesday morning her symptoms had severely worsened and as a worried kitty mom I rushed her to The Schwarzman Animal Medical Center ER where the doctors told me her anemia had become severe in the span of 2 days since her first bloodwork and that she would need a blood transfusion and to be admitted for multiple days in order for her to be stabilized and potentially save her life. This destroyed me not knowing what would happen or how my perfectly healthy kitty had all of a sudden fallen ill.

My life took an overwhelming turn with no other choice left I had her admitted in order to give her the best possibility of finding answers to her sudden health change & accepting an $8,000 vet bill that I was unsure how I would pay it. If you know me you know how much this tiny kitty means to me even if it meant putting myself in a serious debt in order to save her life. After running multiple test, scans, ultrasounds and X-rays with still no answers as to what could be causing her to lose red blood cells at such a quick rate being that all her test were showing that she was a healthy cat they decided that they had to go to the source and do a biopsy on her bone marrow where they would detect that she has autoimmune mediated disease. Thankfully she can be treated for the disease with a intense medical treatment plan but I am still left with an $8,000 vet bill to pay off and more frequent visits to the vet to ensure that her treatment is working as well as the possibility of more blood transfusion til she can produce her own red blood cells.

I am reaching out to my friends, family and friends of Stash who may not know her but have stopped by to greet her when walking by her typical window watching sessions. If there is anyway that you can help us during these tough times we’d appreciate it. I know that everyone has their own personal hardships but if you can help whether it’s by donating , sharing , or reaching out for word of comfort as I am still very overwhelmed by this all, we would be incredibly grateful.

Thank You,
with much love Denise & Stash
