Hello, my name is Serena Collins. My puppy, Star, is now 1 year and 7 months old. She was gifted to me last October where she was a bundle of pure joy with endless energy. But this October has been a completely different story.

Sudden Decline of Health

On October 5th, I noticed Star vomiting white, slimy fluid multiple times. The next day, during our usual park trip, her legs gave out and were not functioning properly. She couldn’t run after the ball and was exhausted after just one throw. By the following day, she couldn’t even climb the stairs.

After several vet visits, we finally got some clues, though not a clear diagnosis. X-rays showed her esophagus was slightly enlarged, which can be an early sign of Megaesophagus (ME) — a condition where the esophagus loses its ability to move food and water properly. Because ME is often linked to underlying illnesses, her care team suspects she may have Myasthenia Gravis (MG), a rare neuromuscular disorder that causes severe weakness and fatigue. Further testing is needed to confirm the cause, and without proper treatment, these symptoms could lead to serious complications like aspiration pneumonia.

Why I am asking for help

I’m a full-time grad student trying my best to support her care by picking up extra shifts. Although I have pet insurance, it doesn’t cover nearly enough for her medical costs.

Star means the world to me, and watching her in pain has been very disheartening and difficult. Any amount, big or small, will go directly toward her diagnostic testing, vet bills, and ongoing care.
