St. John the Evangelist Hingham Youth/Intergenerational Faith and Study Experience: Race, Reconciliation and Hope, Summer 2025
South Africa continues to recover from the legacy of Apartheid. For the past thirty years, the country has sought reconciliation, healing, and growth as the previously separated white, colored, and black racial and national groups struggle to understand what true equality means in the new South Africa. That transformation is an on-going process. If fully embraced, it is a spiritual waystation filled with hope.
This year St. Johns will send its fourth group of parishioners to South Africa on a mission of understanding and introspection about faith and God’s grace in their lives and the lives of the people with whom they will engage. While meaningful for all, it is especially important for our youth to experience service/work opportunities, visit key sites of South African history and present realities, gain an understanding of the environmental conditions of its varied landscape, and contemplate the role of countries like the US in global economic and social development. Young participants will also live with families as part of homestays.
Please consider helping us to reach our goal of $3,500 to distribute to various entities during our stay. All donations of any amount are greatly appreciated.
A donation of:
• $300 enables a host family stay for a teenager
• $200 helps sponsor our Chaplain Will Buckley
• $100 provides a donation to the Eternal Flame Church, Cape Town
• $100 provides a donation to the St. Martin's Anglican Church, Cape Town
• $25 enables a purchase of mittens and socks for children in townships
Please help us fund this important ministry.
Thank you!
