SSG HEMI
I'm a very proud military spouse of a man who has literally given his all for his family. My husband, of 30 years, has finally retired after 21+ years of dedicated service in the US Army. This man came back into the Army after a 15 year hiatus in order for us to obtain resources for our autistic sons. This was a 41 year old man coming back in during the Iraq/Afghanistan wars. Spent a year in Iraq during the war. This man also coached & gave his all for 10 years, during his military career, to the Special Olympics in support of our 2 sons. He is now 58 years old.
Our reward after all this... during his retirement physical, it was discovered that he now has cancer. It is spreading quite rapidly. He has finally been diagnosed with ADENOCARCINOMA. It has spread from the lymph nodes to his liver already. He had been planning on working somewhere else until his retirement for social security in another 10 years. Well, that's not happening now. I have my own health issues with autoimmune disease & am unable to work myself. I would give anything if I could. We have co-pays, mortgage, utilities, vehicle, groceries, etc to somehow manage now without that income. CANCER.... NOT THE FUTURE WE ENVISIONED AFTER THE MILITARY WAS DONE. This man was obsessive about going to the gym almost every day, keeping as fit as possible as he was an older soldier. Now... he can barely walk without severe pain. Our sons & I are with him round the clock taking care of him.
Steve was known as SSG HEMI to all his fellow soldiers, here & overseas. He was the "Old Man" everyone looked up to. He's always done his best to put others first in his life. Now it's our turn to take care of him best as we can. PLEASE HELP US... THIS JUST CANNOT BE HOW THIS OLD SOLDIER GOES OUT!
