We are deeply saddened to share the devastating news of the tragic passing of Sreeja Varma, a bright and beloved 24-year-old MS graduate from Hyderabad, India. Sreeja was pursuing further studies and looking towards a bright future in Champaign, Illinois.

On Aug 11th, 2025, Sreeja was going to dinner when she was tragically struck from behind by a truck. Despite being rushed to the nearby Carle Hospital, doctors were unable to resuscitate her. She suffered severe internal injuries that critically affected her, taking her life far too soon.

Born and raised in Srikrishnanagar, near Gandi Maisamma Crossroads in Medchal-Malkajgiri district, Sreeja’s roots trace back to Ramarukala village in Siddipet district, Telangana. She came from a humble yet hardworking family—her father, Srinivas Varma, is a driver, and her mother, Hemalatha, works in a private firm.

Despite her humble upbringing, Sreeja was immensely driven and deeply committed to her education. She dreamed of building a successful career that would uplift her family and inspire others from her community. Her dedication and hard work brought her to the United States to pursue advanced studies, with hopes of creating a better future for those she loved most.

Her untimely passing has left her parents and younger sister devastated. She also leaves behind outstanding student loan obligations that add to the emotional and financial strain.
