Support Squeak's Healing Journey

For the last few years, we’ve had so many doctors (not all, but enough) brush off our concerns about Squeak’s symptoms. Our pediatrician was the one who first saw something wasn’t right and even sent us to the Mayo Clinic in October. But we just got a bunch of guesses and didn’t feel heard. It wasn’t until our pediatrician sent us to Bismarck this week because of severe constipation that we finally got some real answers.

The doctor here noticed something strange on Squeak’s X-rays and ordered an ultrasound. That ultrasound showed us Squeak has bowel telescoping, or intussusception. Basically, one part of the intestine slides into another, like a telescope, causing a blockage. What made Squeak’s case different was that his bowels would telescope and then go back to normal, which explained why his symptoms seemed to come and go in waves.

On Thursday, Squeak had surgery to remove part of his bowel, part of his large intestine, and his appendix. The area that was removed had a bunch of swollen lymph nodes, and the walls of the large intestine were abnormally thickened. We still don’t know why his bowels were doing this, but at least we know why our kiddo would stop eating and why he had such difficulty gaining weight.

Unfortunately, the medical bills have been adding up during this whole ordeal and any help is greatly appreciated!
