A friend of mine is going through something really hard right now. Her cat, Squeakers, has been sick for a while—losing weight, not quite himself—and after a few vet visits, they finally got an answer: small cell lymphoma.
If you've ever loved an animal like family, you know how much that kind of news can shake your world.
Squeakers isn't just a cat—he's her comfort, her constant, her family. He got his name as a kitten because instead of meowing, he'd squeak—tiny and high-pitched, like a squeaky toy with paws. He's sweet and affectionate, the kind of cat that melts into your lap and reminds you to slow down. He shares his home with another cat, Hugo, who's also been sensing the shift—responding in his own quiet way to everything that's been happening.
When the diagnosis came, the decision had to be made on the spot. There wasn't much time to weigh options or process what was unfolding. Still, her gut told her to do what she could—to fight for Squeakers and give him a chance at more time and more love.
But that choice comes with a heavy cost—nearly $10,000 and possibly rising. It's hard enough to navigate the emotions of something like this, to also carry the weight of debt that feels like such a setback.
If you're able to give—anything at all—it will go directly toward Squeakers' care: the meds, tests, treatments, and all the things he'll need in the weeks and months ahead. And if you're not in a place to give, sharing this means so much, too.
Thank you for reading, and thank you for helping carry some of this with her. Your sharing, giving, and support are sooo appreciated!
