Hi everyone, my name is Spencer.

I’ve been working with and rehabilitating behavioral and medical dogs since I was sixteen years old. Before that, I came from a difficult home situation that eventually placed me in foster care — where I wasn’t even allowed to pet my own dog. From as far back as I can remember, I’ve always wanted to work with animals, and when I turned sixteen, I finally got the chance. That’s when I adopted my first dog, Señor. He’s almost five now and absolutely thriving.

When I first got Señor, everyone told me not to — that I couldn’t handle it. But I’m so glad I didn’t listen. He’s been with me through everything. When I aged out of foster care at eighteen, it was just the two of us. I didn’t have a car, a license, or even much to my name — just my phone, some clothes, and my dog. The community really helped me get on my feet, especially one incredible woman (who I’ll keep anonymous for privacy) who helped me get my license, my business registration, and even guided me through rescuing and rehabilitating over 30 animals so far.

Recently, I decided to take the next step and invest in a van to convert into a permanent, affordable home for myself and my dogs. Living in a van full-time is something people all over the world do to reduce expenses and live more freely — but unfortunately, mine wasn’t finished in time for me to move out. I’ve been bouncing around with my dogs in an unfinished van, and while they love the adventure, it’s been tough.

I did try renting for a few months, but between rent, insurance, the van payment, and vet care for my dogs, it completely drained me. I often went without food just to make sure my animals had what they needed. Eventually, I had to move back into the van before it was ready.

Right now, my biggest challenge is that my van isn’t insulated yet — which makes it cold at night as temperatures drop. I have multiple animals— all well-behaved, loved deeply, and thriving under my care. They love the van life, but I want to make it safer and more comfortable for them as the weather gets colder.

The estimated cost to finish the build, including insulation, battery sets, wiring, solar panels, and heating and AC installation, is around $11,000. My priority right now is getting the insulation, heating, and AC systems installed before winter fully sets in.

If you’re able to help — whether by donating, sharing my story, or even just offering resources or advice — it would mean the world to me and my pack. Every bit helps bring us one step closer to stability and warmth this winter.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for any support you can give.

With gratitude,
Spencer
