Spencer is a fun, happy, sweet, funny, feisty two year old who was born with Down syndrome and congenital heart disease. He was born two months premature, and had a cardiac arrest at 3 months old. He spent the first seven months of his life in the hospital.
Spencer was home for 1 year and 10 months when his heart started to struggle again. Essentially, he developed a blockage in the heart that was causing blood to back up into his lungs. When this happens, the rest of the body does not get enough oxygen.
Spencer was readmitted to the hospital on November 12, and he quickly decompensated. He was placed on a ventilator and taken for emergency open heart surgery. After the operation, his recovery will be long and likely will have many ups and downs.
The Ronald McDonald house is over an hour away, so they need to stay at a hotel close to UCLA where Spencer is in PICU for the next few months, so any donations received will help his family cover the expenses of staying near the hospital so they can be near Spencer.
