Support Spencer's Fight Against Coats' Disease
Donation protected
Hello everyone,
We are trying to raise money to help with the medical expenses for Spencer Parod. Spencer was born in December 2005. When Spencer was a 1 year old, he was diagnosed with Coats' Disease - a rare disease that typically affects 9-10 year old boys. Coats' disease is a rare congenital, nonhereditary eye disorder, causing full or partial blindness, characterized by abnormal development of blood vessels behind the retina. Spencer had his first surgery at 1 but was given a clean bill of health by age 2. That good fortune didn't last as he had his 2nd surgery in July 2008, where they were forced to remove his right eye. Since then, Spencer's parents and the specialty doctors at UC Davis have been working hard to save his remaining eye. Since 2008, Spencer has had 2 corneal transplants, 1 cataract removal, a membrane removal, and 2 glaucoma tubes put behind his left eye. Spencer has also been on monthly infusions to suppress his immune system and will be on these for the rest of his life. Most recently, there was a bacterial infection due to a loose stitch that cut his eye and caused the infection, and there is serious concern that Spencer will be permanently blind. As you can imagine, all of these procedures, infusions, and prescriptions are costly. We'd appreciate any support you are able to provide. Thank you!
