My name is David, and my husband and I recently retired and bought a beach house in Puerto Armuelles, Panama. We love animals and want to give back to the local community by organizing Free/Low-Cost Spay/Neuter Clinics to assist with the explosion of the population of dogs and cats in our piece of paradise in Panama.
Our town is economically challenged, and unemployment is rampant. To be honest, most Panamanians can't afford to have their pets fixed. Half the time, if there are no table scraps, then the pets don't get fed and have to scrounge in the neighborhood. Our expat community is rather small, but we are trying to organize these clinics and also provide basic veterinary services, vaccines, and educational activities to teach locals the benefits of having their pets fixed.
International SPCA will not help because we are just starting out, and the biggest charity here in Panama, called SpayPanama, will not assist either for the same reason. Eventually, we hope to become a non-profit organization, and then we will have access to other funding, but that is at least a few years away. So, we are getting creative with fundraising, i.e., asking locally for donations, trying to involve local businesses, and other strategies.
This GoFundMe is the newest attempt to generate the needed funds for our first scheduled Spay/Neuter Clinic on March 8th, 2026, for between 200-300 dogs and cats. This first clinic for just 200 animals will be $6000, so please, if you can support our fund in any amount, it will all be added to what we currently have or can raise before the first clinic date of March 8th. Please spread the word about our need.
