Support South Park BMX: Overcome Financial Hurdles
Tax deductible
Hello,
My name is Nick Dawson, and I am the new Track Operator at South Park BMX for 2025 and beyond. I’m grateful to have taken over a prospering program; we rank in the top 10 in our country. Last year, our membership completed the fundraising for and built the biggest project I’ve seen locally in my 20-plus years of racing BMX. We were able to pull over 70 thousand dollars together and build a brand new starting hill, one that I know the entire country will enjoy racing this summer and beyond.
Upon completion of the project, there were numerous payment issues between our debtors and our former treasurer. This individual allegedly lied, doctored documents, and manipulated our entire membership into thinking the problem with payments was mail-related and not financial-related. When we gained access to our bank account, thanks to work from our bank and new treasurer, we found out there was $200 in our account and that over a seven-year period there was misuse of over a hundred thousand dollars from our organization. Personal trips, clothing, and credit card payments are amongst charges we found to not make sense in regard to the operations of our organization. We took this matter to the District Attorney’s office almost immediately after finding out, who is currently investigating the case. We then took every step possible to provide transparency to our local membership and also prevent this situation from happening again. Our community, and the entire BMX community, is very close, and the toll this has taken on us goes far beyond the dollars missing.
Through the hard work of our fundraising team and membership, we have gained the financial ability to maintain a fairly normal schedule. There is, however, still 80 thousand dollars in debt to pay and a national to run, which is why we are asking you, the community, to support our program through our GoFundMe fundraiser. We aim to move past this situation as soon as possible and continue improving our facility for the current and many future generations.
The vision I have for our facility goes past paying debt, making jumps bigger, cultivating the fastest riders in the country, and growing our membership body. My vision looks like giving each and every kid a place to call home, much as I have for the last 20 years.
Thank you in advance for your support and helping racers race.
