As New York City prepared for a massive winter storm last Saturday night, we began to smell smoke and burnt rubber right after putting our daughter down to sleep. A few minutes later, the smoke only intensified and we all rushed out the door.
A fire had started in the boiler in the basement and traveled up the line. The FDNY had to make multiple breaks in our walls to reach it, leaving a layer of dust from the breakage in addition to ash residue from the smoke. We've been displaced for over a week now awaiting repairs, a proper lead inspection and remediation from the toxins resulting from the fire.
We are fundraising to cover the costs of temporary housing, repairs, and replacing damaged belongings. We know it is a time of great need for many, so ask for support only if it is within your means.
This fundraiser is for our family, who has been displaced due to the fire.
