Help Us Save Sophie and Her Puppies ✨

A dumped dog. A birthday detour. A life‑changing moment.

On Monday, December 22, my daughter and I took a different route to get coffee for her birthday — a small decision that changed everything. As we drove past the railroad tracks, we saw a large white dog standing alone in the median. Another dog limped away as soon as we stopped, too scared and injured to approach. But this girl… the moment I opened my car door and called to her, she jumped straight into our arms as if she had been waiting for someone to finally see her.

My daughter decided to call her Sophie- and it stuck.

At the vet, we discovered she had been dumped in our neighborhood with two other dogs, roaming for weeks. One of her companions was found deceased by the tracks. The other — a small heeler — is still out there somewhere, injured and afraid.

Sophie, barely a year old, is a Great Pyrenees/Anatolian mix… and she was very pregnant.

The neighborhood rallied together to help us cover the initial $500 in exams and X‑rays. Those X‑rays showed at least nine puppies, though they were so tightly packed the vet couldn’t be sure. We were told she’d likely deliver around New Year’s.

But life had other plans.

At 6 AM the day after Christmas, we woke to the sound of tiny squeaks. Sophie had already delivered her first puppy. We rushed her to the whelping area we’d prepared — with none of the supplies we’d ordered, because they weren’t scheduled to arrive until that weekend. Still, she trusted us completely, and we did everything we could with no experience and relying heavily on the kindness and knowledge of amazing humans on social media.

Over the next eight hours, Sophie delivered eight healthy puppies — six boys and two girls. She was exhausted but gentle, loving, and unbelievably brave.

Then everything changed.

Sophie stopped progressing. We believed one last puppy was stuck. But at the emergency vet, we learned the truth:
Two puppies were trapped in her birth canal.
She had no strength left to push.
She had already been given every safe medication and calcium boost possible.
Nothing was working.

Right now, Sophie is in surgery fighting for her life — and for the lives of the puppies still inside her. With the cost of her surgery and her overnight care we need all of the help that we can get.

This dog, who was abandoned, starved, pregnant, and alone… who still trusted enough to leap into a stranger’s car… who has captured the hearts of our entire neighborhood… needs us now more than ever.

We have called every rescue, every shelter, every foster network. Everyone is full. Everyone is overwhelmed. There is a crisis, and Sophie fell through the cracks — until she found us. She is a mirror for every person who has ever felt like the systems meant to protect have failed leaving us alone, hungry, and wondering aimlessly until help finally arrives.

We are doing everything we can, but the emergency surgery and post‑care costs are far beyond what we can manage alone. We want to give Sophie the chance she deserves:
a chance to survive, to heal, to raise her puppies, and to finally know safety.

If you can donate, share, or simply help spread Sophie’s story, you are part of saving a life that was nearly lost twice — once when she was dumped, and again today.

And because transparency matters: any funds raised for Sophie will go directly toward her care and the care of her puppies — nothing fancy, nothing extra, just the essentials that keep them alive, healthy, and growing. That includes daily expenses like high‑quality food, puppy formula, medical bills she’s already incurred, follow‑up vet visits, and vaccinations for all the puppies when they’re old enough. We’re a one‑income household doing everything we can to stretch every penny as far as it will go, but caring for a recovering mama dog and a whole litter of newborns is more than we can shoulder alone. Every bit of support helps us make sure Sophie and her babies get exactly what they need, when they need it.

Sophie chose us.
Now we’re choosing her.
Thank you for helping us fight for her.
