Our friend Sophie is the driving force behind Berlin Buyers Club (BBC), a grassroots art-activist collective founded in 2023 and dedicated to raising awareness for Long Covid and ME/CFS. After developing Long Covid herself, Sophie committed her limited energy to this cause, and her work has resonated with many sufferers and allies.

Sophie runs BBC almost entirely on her own, with the help of her husband and a handful of occasional volunteers - many of whom are also chronically ill. Despite receiving a modest grant to continue her work, BBC urgently needs additional funds to cover the costs of essential equipment, materials and event organising. Sophie’s advocacy work includes the following and more:

Most recently, BBC has organised a series of impactful protests in Berlin to amplify the voices of those affected by these misunderstood illnesses and call for change and recognition at the government level. In the coming months, BBC has ambitious plans to expand its impact with more awareness campaigns and protests, and to officially register as a non-profit, which will introduce further expenses. On top of these projects, Sophie spends countless hours creating designs for stickers, merch and social media content, all of which requires expensive software and hardware.

Unsere Freundin Sophie hat 2023 das aktivistische Kunstkollektiv Berlin Buyers Club (BBC) gegründet, das sich für die Aufklärung über Long Covid und ME/CFS einsetzt. Sophie selbst lebt mit Long Covid und setzt ihre begrenzte Energie unermüdlich dafür ein, das Bewusstsein für diese oft missverstandenen chronischen Erkrankungen zu schärfen. Ihre Arbeit inspiriert viele Betroffene und Verbündete.

Sophie organisiert BBC fast vollständig im Alleingang, unterstützt von ihrem Mann und einer kleinen Gruppe Freiwilliger, von denen viele ebenfalls chronisch krank sind. Trotz eines bescheidenen Zuschusses, der die Fortführung ihrer Arbeit ermöglicht, steht Sophie vor großen finanziellen Herausforderungen. BBC benötigt dringend zusätzliche Mittel, um die Kosten für notwendige Ausrüstung, Materialien und die Organisation von Veranstaltungen zu decken. Die Arbeit von Sophie umfasst u.a. folgendes:

In letzter Zeit hat BBC mehrere kraftvolle Demonstrationen in Berlin organisiert, die die Stimmen von Long Covid- und ME/CFS-Betroffenen auf die politische Agenda setzen wollen. In den kommenden Monaten plant BBC, seine Aktivitäten weiter auszubauen, um mit noch größeren Kampagnen und Protestaktionen auf sich aufmerksam zu machen, sowie offiziell als gemeinnützige Organisation zu registrieren. Damit verbunden sind zusätzliche Kosten für rechtliche Schritte, Verwaltungsaufwand und notwendige Ressourcen. Darüber hinaus investiert Sophie unzählige Stunden in das Designen von Aufklebern, Merchandise und Social-Media-Inhalten, was teure Software und Hardware erfordert.
