Every once in a while, God sends a blessing in the form of a special person. That's who my mother Sophia is; she's that special person in our family and community. A beacon of light, a warm smile, and a servant of her community, my mother has truly blessed us all in many ways. She is a licensed minister and faithfully volunteered at her church in the nursing home ministry. Visiting the elderly and praying with them and their families. Sadly though, her body has been attacked with stage four Adenocarcinoma of the lung (non-small cell lung cancer). It has spread to her bones, brain, and liver and has taken its toll on my dear mother. She worked a full year enduring and fighting with a smile on her face. She recently had to give up her job because of the spread and lack of oxygen and is currently undergoing brain radiation and chemotherapy.

Some of you may have been affected by cancer, know the battle and how it affects more than just the patient. I'm a nurse and doing all I can within my knowledge and rapport with doctors. Still, this battle has impacted our entire family and everyday life. My father has to leave our mother every day to work and make sure bills are paid, but one income isn't enough. Easing the financial burden will allow us to focus on beating this perturbing disease! I want to make sure money isn't something she and our family worry about.

My mother is a loving wife, mother of my brother and me, and her family's backbone. She has a long road of treatment ahead of her. With this message, I would like all who can help our family by blessing my mother and father with assistance to help cover medical treatment and other financial obligations.
